What you will do
This work will take about 10 hours.
You will:
- carry out a soil pH test
- describe the physical, chemical and biological properties of a soil and explain their effect on plant growth.
Assessment
Your teacher will look at how well you:

Overseas students – DO NOT send plant or soil material into New Zealand. Take photos of your practical work instead to email or post to your teacher.
What you will need
- pH paper and chart (enclosed with your workbook)
- two soil samples, a dessertspoonful each, from two different parts of the garden or from different gardens
- two jars with lids
- distilled or rain water
- a small glass
- a teaspoon.
