Introduction

HT1033 Soils 3 covers part of achievement standard 90919, AHS 1.3: Demonstrate knowledge of soil management practices.

This work will take about 8–10 hours.

What you will do

Use the HT1033 study plan as a guide to work your way through the 10 sessions.

You will:

  • investigate the effect of lime on clay
  • complete a soil structure report
  • explain management practices used to modify soils
  • explain how soil management practices effect plant growth.
 

Assessment

Your teacher will look at how well you:

What you will need

  • a small glass
  • a teaspoon
  • dry clay, about one teaspoon
  • pen for labelling
  • a ruler for measuring in millimetres
  • a sample of moderately dry topsoil
  • newspaper or something similar to place soil on
  • a test tube or small jar
  • horticulture DVD HT1021DV.
